“This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.\u00a0For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.\u00a0But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.”<\/mark>\u00a0\u00a0(John 3:19-21, NASB)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Apostle John records the words of Jesus, Who speaks about light.\u00a0 Jesus IS the Light, and He says so.\u00a0 In this account, Jesus is speaking with Nicodemus, a Pharisee, “a leader of the Jews.”\u00a0 (John 3:1)\u00a0 Jesus tells Nicodemus that he must be born again for him to receive eternal life.\u00a0 Nicodemus is rightfully confused.\u00a0 Nicodemus asks, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother\u2019s womb and be born, can he?”\u00a0 (John 3:4)\u00a0 \u00a0As part of His explanation, Jesus tells Nicodemus, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”\u00a0 (John 3:16)\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further, Jesus explains that the Light has come into the world, “and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.”\u00a0 It’s interesting that most of all evil is done under the cover of darkness, so that the evildoers hope to avoid being discovered.\u00a0 Jesus says the same:\u00a0 “For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.” In contrast, “he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus is the Light of the World.\u00a0 We saw in Chapter 1 of John that the Light came into the world, and we hated the Light!\u00a0 The Light was too bright for us.\u00a0 It exposed our sins.\u00a0 The Light made us accountable for our sins.\u00a0 But, wait!\u00a0 If we would accept the Light, then we shall not perish, but have eternal life. This is good news!\u00a0 Like Jesus says at the end, if we would walk in the truth,\u00a0 then we will come to the Light!\u00a0 Is it dark where you are?\u00a0 Then come to the Light!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
