{"id":1167,"date":"2023-12-15T22:13:07","date_gmt":"2023-12-15T22:13:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deadmannotwalking.org\/?p=1167"},"modified":"2023-12-15T22:13:10","modified_gmt":"2023-12-15T22:13:10","slug":"advent-v","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deadmannotwalking.org\/?p=1167","title":{"rendered":"Advent V"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"\">So it came about on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunder and lightning flashes and a thick cloud upon the mountain and a very loud trumpet sound, so that all the people who\u00a0<em>were<\/em>\u00a0in the camp trembled.\u00a0 (Exodus 19:16, NASB)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">We continue our look at the Advent hymn &#8220;O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.&#8221;\u00a0 The Bible scholar who Sue and I saw on The 700 Club linked the fifth stanza of the hymn with the verse above from Exodus.\u00a0 The context has the Israelites cowering at the supernatural circumstances that they see and hear before them.\u00a0 Moses is up on Mount Sinai, hearing from God!\u00a0 Now for the fifth stanza of the hymn:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">&#8221; . .&nbsp; O come, Adonai, Lord of might,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Who to Thy tribes, on Sinai&#8217;s height,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In ancient times didst give the law<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In cloud and majesty d awe . . . &#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">I&#8217;ve noticed that different versions of the hymn use different stanzas, probably for brevity.&nbsp; by The Choir of King&#8217;s College, Cambridge&nbsp;This fifth stanza implores God Most High to come down from heaven, just like when He did on Mount Sinai, at which He gave Moses the Ten Commandments.&nbsp; It recounts the shock and awe that the tribes felt as they observed what was going on at Mount Sinai.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">I love this version of the hymn by Selah.&nbsp; Throughout there are strains from the Israeli National Anthem, &#8220;Hatikvah.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"O Come, O Come Emmanuel\" width=\"525\" height=\"394\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fFtIau14El0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
