“Do not let your heart be troubled;\u00a0believe in God, believe also in Me.\u00a0\u00a0In My Father\u2019s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.\u00a0\u00a0If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am,\u00a0there<\/em>\u00a0you may be also.\u00a0\u00a0And you know the way where I am going.\u201d<\/mark>\u00a0\u00a0Thomas said to Him, \u201cLord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Jesus said to him,\u00a0\u201cI am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me . . . ”\u00a0\u00a0<\/mark>(John 14:1-6,NASB)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Apostle John devotes several chapters of his Gospel to Jesus’ dissertations at the Last Supper.  He goes into far greater detail than the other gospels.  In the passage above, he notes that Jesus is telling the disciples that He’s about to go to heaven.  He tells them one of His tasks will be to prepare a dwelling place for them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus says in His Father’s House “are many dwelling places.”  Some versions use “rooms” or “mansions.”  I don’t know if He’s speaking here of God’s throne room, of Heaven, or the New Jerusalem.  I like to think it’s the latter.  The book of Revelation tells how heaven and earth will pass away and the New Jerusalem will take their place.  New Jerusalem is described as a cube; its dimensions will be 1,500 miles by 1,500 miles by 1,500 miles.  That’s huge!  Plenty of room in that city for rooms or dwelling places, or mansions.  Jesus says He’s off to prepare a place for them.  He’s also preparing a place for those of us who know Him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus also tells the Disciples “where I am, there you may be also.  And you know the way where I am going.”  Thomas the Doubter gets involved:  “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?”  Jesus replies with a famous passage:  “I am THE way, and THE truth, and THE life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”  (emphasis mine)
In answering Thomas’ question, I think Jesus is saying that if you believe in Him, He will show you the way to life everlasting and to your dwelling place at the right time.  In a broader context, He’s telling the disciples and us that through Him is the only way to everlasting fellowship with God.  The Father sent His Son to earth to be a sacrifice, that “whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”  (John 3:16)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, He is working right now preparing a dwelling place for you.\u00a0 You will live in everlasting fellowship with God and His Son, my Lord Jesus Christ.\u00a0 If you’ve not put your faith and trust in Jesus, would you do so now?\u00a0 All you have to do is ask Him.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
