{"id":768,"date":"2022-12-27T14:41:01","date_gmt":"2022-12-27T14:41:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deadmannotwalking.org\/?p=768"},"modified":"2022-12-27T14:41:23","modified_gmt":"2022-12-27T14:41:23","slug":"simeon-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deadmannotwalking.org\/?p=768","title":{"rendered":"Simeon"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him.&nbsp;And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord\u2019s Christ.&nbsp;And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in&nbsp;the&nbsp;child Jesus, to carry out for Him the custom of the Law,&nbsp;then he took Him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,&nbsp;\u201cNow Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace,&nbsp;According to Your word;&nbsp;For my eyes have seen Your salvation,&nbsp;Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples,&nbsp;A Light of revelation to the&nbsp;Gentiles,&nbsp;And the glory of Your people Israel.\u201d&nbsp; (Luke 2:25-32, NASB)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eight days after Jesus was born, Joseph and Mary took their Baby from Bethlehem to the Temple in Jerusalem, to present Him to the Lord.\u00a0 The Law of Moses mandated that the firstborn of all creatures belonged to the Lord.\u00a0 The firstborn of people, however, could be redeemed by a sacrifice.\u00a0 Since Joseph and Mary were poor, their sacrifice could be \u201cA pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.\u201d\u00a0 (Luke 2:24)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While at the Temple, they met a man named Simeon, who had been sent there by the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 Doctor Luke describes Simeon as &#8220;righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel.&#8221;\u00a0 &#8220;And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord\u2019s Christ.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ci4.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/ROP_HX8LHud-bWyUJxsyWysY3NEyuHKW8MBc4Jw6vP18hvZuLgRhSqDfyDW_edY-DKbxMg2-9JnTjBtniqADEQeqETxNsD_0mW9oImrZgT8F9eTq26xBRKaBkZ6eJrQF6XIfHehOdP85ycQ6jWNRgugKuQg23DIHSf2dzI7mrCxoEbjPVfhFg-EybjsENu69Ip9_wQTzaqp5AQ=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/4\/40\/Bellini-circumcision-NG1455-fm.jpg\/1920px-Bellini-circumcision-NG1455-fm.jpg\" alt=\"74.9 x 102.2 cm\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">&#8220;The Circumcision,&#8221; by Giovanni Bellini, approximately 1500.\u00a0 Found at Wikipedia,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jesus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jesus<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When he saw Jesus, Simeon &#8220;took Him into his arms, and blessed God.&#8221;&nbsp; Simeon knew this Baby was the Messiah, his Savior!
