Your people\u00a0shall be\u00a0my people, and your God, my God.\u00a0Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. Thus may the LORD\u00a0do to me, and worse, if\u00a0anything but\u00a0death parts you and me.&#8221;\u00a0 (Ruth 1:16-17,NASB)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the days of the judges, there was a famine in the land of Israel.&nbsp; A woman called Naomi escaped to the country of Moab with her husband and their two sons to ride out the famine.&nbsp; While there, the two sons married Moabite women.&nbsp; Naomi&#8217;s husband and her sons later died.&nbsp; Naomi decided to go back to Israel, to the land of Judah.&nbsp; She told her daughters-in-law to return to their parents&#8217; homes, as there was nothing Naomi could do for them.&nbsp; One, called Orpah, complied.&nbsp; The other, Ruth, refused, and her dialogue with Naomi is in the passage above.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ruth was devoted, very loyal to Naomi.&nbsp; Once back in Judah, near Bethlehem, Ruth went to glean in the barley fields of a man called Boaz.&nbsp; It turned out that Boaz was a relative of Naomi&#8217;s late husband.&nbsp; Boaz ended up redeeming Ruth.&nbsp; In Israel, under the Law of Moses, if a husband were to die, under redemption his brother or another relative was expected to marry the widow to keep the deceased man&#8217;s name alive.&nbsp; Boaz had heard of all that Ruth had done for her mother-in-law, and knew that she was a &#8220;woman of excellence.&#8221;&nbsp; He was only too happy to marry her.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ci4.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/XqEkzhqfBhaYDHL0fFM5WZ3B6P8C6IlIdr-5sx1mLb5WJNJK9EuV4i4GcmlFtXlhJ2l_=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/biblepic.com\/53\/7145.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Ruth 1:17 image.\u00a0 Found at Bible Hub,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/biblepic.com\/ruth\/1-17.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/biblepic.com\/ruth\/1-17.htm<\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ruth&#8217;s loyalty was rewarded when she and Boaz had a son.\u00a0 Ruth and Boaz are mentioned in the genealogy of our Lord Jesus Christ.\u00a0 Their great grandson would be the second king of Israel, King David.\u00a0 Ruth is one of the few women, and one of the few Gentiles, to be mentioned in Jesus&#8217; lineage.\u00a0 God certainly blessed Ruth for her loyalty and that she was that woman of excellence!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Blessings - Laura Story (with lyrics)\" width=\"525\" height=\"394\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XQan9L3yXjc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Worship:\u00a0 &#8220;Blessings,&#8221; by Laura Story<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sunday&#8217;s essay was my 200th post.\u00a0 Please pray for my eyes, so I can keep writing!\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>But Ruth said, \u201cDo not urge me to leave you\u00a0or\u00a0turn back from following you; for where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge.
